BRUSSELS, 20 April, 2026 — Leading digital privacy technology providers are delighted to announce the official creation of the European CMP Association. Established as a non-profit organization based in Brussels, the association represents Consent Management Platform (CMP) providers serving hundreds of thousands of businesses and millions of users across Europe.
Why are we launching the association?
We all believe in defending Digital Sovereignty and Interoperability and think our sector has a critical role to play. We provide the underlying infrastructure that enables hundreds of thousands of businesses and millions of users to navigate data privacy requirements. We manage technological complexity every day. When there are discussions around consent in Europe, we think it is essential to speak with one voice, representing experts on the ground, ensuring that regulations are translated into functional, real-world tools. In the continuity of having one voice, we have already responded to the Commission’s public consultation of the digital Omnibus in March.
This is a critical moment for regulation on data privacy and security in the EU. Regulatory simplification is a great objective, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of individuals’ right to privacy and (digital) freedom. We support simplification, but we need to tread carefully.
Our association aims to become a vital voice and to:
- Support GDPR-Compliant Consent Practices: Promote consent mechanisms that are specific, informed, and unambiguous, while encouraging approaches that preserve contextual user choice and transparency.
- Standardize Exchanges: Contribute to the creation of technical interoperability standards between browsers, Digital Identity Wallets (EUDI), and compliance infrastructures.
- Protect the European Digital Economy: Prevent the control of consent from being captured by a handful of non-European browser vendors. This could cause consent rates to drop by as much as 80% and weaken the revenues of the continent’s publishers and SMEs.
About the European CMP Association
The European CMP Association, officially established on March 20, 2026, in Brussels, is the professional organization representing consent management solution providers across Europe. The association was founded by four industry leaders: Axeptio (France), Didomi (France), iubenda (Italy), and Usercentrics (Germany), but it is designed to engage and unify the entire CMP ecosystem.
We want to bring together all technology providers and compliance partners to speak with a single, expert voice in the European privacy landscape. By consolidating the expertise of the whole industry, we promote a pragmatic, sustainable, and balanced implementation of data protection frameworks. The association serves as a collective platform dedicated to defending European digital sovereignty and ensuring a fair digital future for all businesses and users.
